What is a solar photovoltaic EPC?

A photovoltaic system is a symbol of environmental responsibility and also a low-risk investment with good returns. But who or what is in fact an EPC?
Literally epc means: engineering, procurement, and construction.
EPC is a particular form of contracting arrangement that allow to manage efficiently all aspects and stages of the realization process of a photovoltaic plant, from permitting, engineering and construction, to commissioning.

Build your own solar installation today it’s easier than in the past, but there are many aspects that can derail a project, factors such as design schedule delays, material procurement issues, and on to final construction issues.

So, who can help you how to build a solar installation? What kind of person or company can help from the start of a project?

One EPC partner is the right answer.

If you decide the EPC route it is important to find a reliable and bankable EPC Partner, as you only have one contract and you rely on a competent firm to take care of the project’s details. With one contract, you typically only have one point of contact, which relays into one meeting and ultimately takes less of your time.

A good photovoltaic EPC partner must have solid agreements with the main international manufacturers to allow to obtain excellent contractual terms and continuity in photovoltaic component supplies, know and respect all legal regulations; furthermore it must have financial solidity and reliability and must be structured with solid and reliable market research, technical, logistic, administrative and maintenance departments.

There are various possibilities of epc contract, the main difference lies in the nature of the business structure of the general contractor.

  • The general contractor is a management company with financial skills, coordination, planning and control; it therefore assumes full responsibility towards the customer, manages the project but delegates the execution to several contractors for engineering, procurement and construction.

  • The General Contractor is an engineering company, which has management skills and engineering but not construction; it assumes full responsibility towards the customer, manages the project, run directly the engineering and procurement and relies on a contractor specialized construction.

  • The general contractor is a construction company that runs directly to the construction and utilizes third party engineering and coordination of supply; this scheme is often weak as regards the management.

  • The general contractor is a true engineering General of construction company, which runs directly to the majority of the project. This is the case of Enerray.
